The Darling

A luxurious hotel with fabulous staff and facilities.

Pros: A fabulous property. Pleasantly surprised as surpassed all the expectations based on the photos when booking. Fantastic room with the highest of ceilings and the most powerful shower ever! Fantastic location if exploring Sequoia NP. Great choice of restaurants available nearby or a short drive away if not dining at The Elderwood Restaurant.

Cons: The Elderwood Restaurant looked stunning. Unfortunately we didn’t feel comfortable to dine there as other diners were super dressed up (which is very fitting for the place so not a criticism) but we hadn’t packed such dressy clothes for our road trip. Would definitely pack something dressy next time though as felt this was a missed opportunity to dine somewhere so beautiful with gorgeous sunset views. The pool could be a bit noisy at times with traffic but it was very private thanks to the surrounding shrubs.

The jewel of Vasaila. Great base to visit Sequoia National park

Pros: The Darling was highly recommended and met up to my expectations. From arrival to checking in was easy, with gated parking space. The hotel is new and classy, yet had a relaxed air. You could sense the history of the place. The Elderwood restaurant had a nice view and good food. Service was excellent, the reception was warm and we were made to feel very welcome.

Cons: The pool didn’t have a change and shower area, nonetheless looked inviting. It was warm in early summer and would have been nice to take a dip.

Beautiful hotel!

Pros: Beautiful hotel. Very clean. Bed was very comfortable and the shower was great.

Cons: Great hotel, but a bit overpriced. Needs more attention to the details, especially if charging the prices they do. For example, having water bottles in the room.

Great place!

Pros: Everything, the decor, the room, the huge shower, the gym (tiny but it was enough for a workout). The mocktail I tried in the rooftop bar was very good.

Cons: Two small points. One thing was that the room was a little noisy, on 4th floor so there was a mechanical type sound coming from upstairs, maybe the restaurant, also you could hear the pinging of the elevator and people talking outside at times. Also the fridge was strangely noisy so I unplugged it temporarily during the night. Another point was that the restaurant didn't have any vegan options. I went there enthusiastic after seeing it listed on Happy Cow with a mention of a few vegan items on the menu but they must have been removed or they were never there in the first place. Staff offered to give me a salad with no cheese or dressing, but that would have meant lettuce and croutons which wouldn't have been very substantial.

Pros: Decor, comfortable bed, beautiful spacious bathroom, great Mission coffee shop nearby & How we roll it ice cream

Cons: Room location on 2nd floor right off lobby, pricey restaurant, Constant emails & text messages from hotel everyday for weeks

It was all nice.

Pros: Hipsters upstairs bar with, hipster bartenders. Nice linens, nice bathrooms.

Pros: The restaurant was great: bustling, fun, with tasty food.

Cons: Bathtubs are nice - our room didn't have one.
